Display As Shown at Flagler Library - Oct 2000

Work Resumed in June
Archaeological work at Bing’s Landing continues as part of Flagler County’s continuing investigation of the Mala Compra Plantation site. The present phase  included further archaeological work (shovel testing and excavation), planning for the preservation and stabilization of architectural remains, and development of exhibits to present results to the public.

Archaeologists with Environmental Services, Inc., with offices in Jacksonville and St. Augustine, will be coordinating the effort. Dr. Greg C. Smith will direct the project, with assistance from project archaeologists Brent Handley, Deborah Mullins, and Marsha Chance. All four live in St. Augustine. Archaeologist Steve Ferrell will also provide assistance in the field. Dr. Susan Parker will serve as the historian, Shelley Sass is an expert in coquina stabilization who will help to preserve the building remains, and Curtis Bowman will help develop the public interpretation program.

Additional artifacts are on display at the Flagler Beach Museum
